Join the Great British Spring Clean 2025

We're supporting the Great British Spring Clean which runs from Friday 21 March to Sunday 6 April, and anyone can get involved before, during, and after.

You can get involved in your neighbourhood by helping with a litter pick, leaf clearing, or clean up. Barnsley Council’s ward alliances and area councils have arranged a range of events across the borough as part of the Great British Spring Clean and all equipment will be provided. If you’d like to join our engagement and neighbourhood teams and some of our community partners, you’re welcome to join us at:

Wellend Crescent, Elsecar – estate walkabout and clean up: Wednesday 26 March, 1-3pm

Honeywell, meet at Honeywell Community Centre - area litter pick: Wednesday 26 March, 1-4pm

Great Houghton TARA base, 39 John Street – area litter pick: Monday 31 March, 10am-12noon

New Lodge, meet at New Lodge Community Centre - area litter pick: Monday 31 March, 1-4pm

Athersley North, meet at Community Shop - area litter pick: Wednesday 2 April, 1-4pm

Feeling inspired?

If you’d like to get started as a litter picker in your local area, Barnsley Council’s area teams can provide you with purple bags and equipment. You can also request for filled bags to be collected once you’ve collected litter. Click here to read more about getting started as a litter picker.
