Pride Month commemorates the Stonewall Riots of 1969, a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights. It’s a time to honour the courage of those who have fought for LGBTQ+ rights and to stand in solidarity with those who continue to face discrimination.
It’s both a celebration of the progress made and a protest against ongoing discrimination and injustice faced by LGBTQ+ people worldwide. Pride is a reminder that while we've come a long way, there’s still work to be done to achieve true equality. It's also a vibrant celebration of identity, diversity, and the power of community.
Here at Berneslai Homes, we’re marking Pride Month by sharing some dedicated content on our social media channels, and sharing information and activities for our staff.
You might notice Berneslai Homes staff wearing a rainbow lanyard or signing off emails with their pronouns as some small gestures that help other people feel safe and comfortable.
It’s important to us that everyone plays their part in creating a safe space where our colleagues, tenants, and partners all feel included and able to be their authentic selves.
All month we’re encouraging colleagues to visit ‘Pride Corner’ in our offices and pick up a rainbow lanyard, pronoun badge, and learn more about the different Pride flags and what they mean.
We’re also sharing ways to be an ally to the LGBTQ+ community and recruiting volunteers to be at this year’s Barnsley Pride on Saturday 13 July. If you’re attending the event, come and say hello – we’d love to see you!
